NRA says “No” to gun ordinances
The NRA has filed suit against three Pennsylvania cities claiming their gun laws are illegal.
In brief, the NRA states that only state legislation has the authority to regulate firearms and that municipalities are exceeding that line in the sand by openly breaking the law.
Pennsylvania state law says municipalities cannot, “in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms.” Many cities, including Pittsburgh, have gun ordinances as well as other local laws that ban gunfire within city limits or prohibit carrying in a public park. Gun rights activists have long claimed these ordinances defy state law.
So far, more than 20 Pennsylvania municipalities have set their sights (no pun intended) on changing their ordinances rather than defending them in court.
