SkallyWag MDV Plus One Knife Review
Receiving the SkallyWag MDV Plus 1 was a very nice experiences. The box that the knife and sheath was encased in is very stylish. Receiving the cool stuff was one thing, it was the anticipation of getting hands on was definitely not a let down. Before we drill down to what I got out of the experiences from real-world carrying it in our permissive environment. Here are the generic description of what MDV plus 1 is about.
MDV Plus 1 from SkallyWag Tactical is a very practical straight blade designed by knife maker/designer Javan Roberts of Grays Custom in cooperation with Mr. Donvito. Every angle and shape of the knife and its purpose is the brain child of Michael Donvito as one of the best in EDC blade technology. Whether you’re a concealed pistol carrier or just carry knives as part of your EDC. Everything from the blade design to the grip is unique. Its not just about durability but even the grip design. At first glance, you won’t think much about it until you grip the blade to draw it quickly. Then, you’ll understand it was weirdly design to be easily accessible from the many position that the knife would be in.
Concealed Carrying the MDV – Mr. Donvito from SkallyWag recommends carrying it in the front pocket and/or having it in the appendix, this is ideal not only for concealment but for weapon protection as well. If you find yourself going mano mano but somehow having to protect that blade with both parties having their hands on it. You’ll understand why its easier to defend from this frontal position. There were two sheaths that came with the MDV. The smaller one called “rhino” is absolutely amazing with concealment in mind. Small enough to insert into the appendix position and no bulk feeling from the sheath like of the other brand name sheaths out on the market. If you have it secured properly you can walk, bend over and even run with it. The comfort feel of it as if, its part of your garment no bulky poke into your body.

An alternative position to carry depending on which part of the country you’re from. If its at a cooler climate and you wear long sleeve and maybe a light jacket. Might consider carrying it on the inside of the chest area of the outer garment. From this position its quite easy to get to your knife. Most are conditioned to going to your appendix, 4’oclock or 7’oclock position on the waist band. But if you’re in the correct position of control accessing the blade from the chest can be quicker. Another option is to carry it in the long sleeve of your shirt. Can be a dress shirt or a Fruit of the Loom long sleeve t-shirt. With a use of a tether (CCW Breakaway tether) makes it possible to carry from any position inside of the outer garment.
