Danner boots, who hasn’t heard of these highly mighty quality boots?
I sure as heck never heard of them when I first got them from Uncle Sam (30 plus years ago) and later with Blumenthal’s (LE agency gets their gear issued here). These two pairs that you see below are over 20 years old.
Yes, I know Danner has been around since 1932 from Portland, OR. Both of these pairs have some serious miles on them. One is a pair of Acadia and the other is, I think its the Fort Lewis, not sure. Danner, the name itself have earned the respect of outdoorsman and soldiers who have trod through various terrains.
My days of long walks are over, so these precious boots are only worn if it snows hard here in the Pacific Northwest. They are all leather with Gore-Tex insulated and Vibram Kletterlift outsole. Both of these boots are not lightweight, the Acadia boot is lighter than the Fort Lewis boot pictured above. (2-3 pounds).
Unfortunately, I have not the fortune to trying out the new hybrid hiking boots like the Trail 2650 Mid, which I think is a glimpse of the future. Hikers say its like putting on a pair of sneakers but with the waterproof-breathable GORE-TEX liner over a plush EVA midsole and the Vibram outsole for slick surface. There is no break-in at all.
For those that have an outdoor job in the construction or any sort of law enforcement functions. Danner obviously does have its place there. I won’t go into the work boots, but on my pair of Danner (Acadia), it was used for military and LE functions both indoor and outside.
For the comfort, it was fine to me since I’m used to the weight when compared to the lighter tactical boots out there. Durability, no issues here either.
Boot Specs
As I stated earlier in the previous paragraphs. Both of my Danner’s have Gore-Tex lining with flexible Vibram sole with double stitching on the outside. The only downside to my boots is that it is on the heavier weight than these newer hybrid hiking or tactical boots like Adidas GSG9’s. The break-in, well, depending on how much you plan on walking can be weeks or months. Your mileage and results will vary.
