Gun Self Defense – The Tueller Drill Scenarios

21_footThe Tueller Drill is a self-defense training exercise to prepare against a short-range attack when armed only with a holstered handgun. The best way to train this drill is to use either an “airsoft gun”, SIRT or if you have the budget get some “simunitions” – And yes, a training knife. In this video, Michael Janich and Mike Seeklander illustrates some scenarios based off of the 21 foot reaction.

Takeaways
First off some of the key takeaways is to:

  • Be aware of your environment, does your firearm skill no good if you just blindly walk into an ambush.
  • Second, beef up on your empty hand skill – This will supplement your firearm skill and using situational management you’ll know when to use that skill.
  • Last use that gross motor skill first to increase the distance between you and the bad guy, by running.

Hats off to the gang at The Best Defense for sharing these useful tactics. Watch for our next segment to this series on “gun self defense” where the bad guy is already inside your 21 foot comfort zone.
