CMMG Inc. has just announced the release of its new Mk47 Mutant rifle platform, which pairs the accuracy and appearance of the AR-15 with the AK47?s 7.62x39mm cartridge and magazine compatibility.
The CMMG Mk47 Mutant features uniquely designed upper and lower receivers manufactured from 7075-T6 billet aluminum. Its receivers are engineered to manage the dimensions and pressures of the tapered 7.62x39mm cartridge without adding excess weight — coming in at slightly over 7 pounds unloaded.
A carbine-length direct impingement gas system cycles the action, while a 16.1? free-float barrel with a 1:10 twist is threaded with a CMMG SV brake or A2 compensator (depending on configuration). Derived from an AR-10 bolt carrier group, the Mk47?s bolt face maintains a beefy size even though the overall length of the carrier is shortened to eight inches. The upper also includes a full length rail and CMMG’s RKM KeyMod Hand Guard.
The lower receiver of the Mk47 accepts existing AK47 magazines, and an ambidextrous magazine release system is familiar with traditional AK47 controls. AK-style features pair with AR-15-style controls on the lower receiver with an AR-style pistol grip, safety selector and trigger group. Lower components also include a collapsible Magpul CTR stock attached to an AR-15 buffer tube.
