6.5 Grendel Upper
The 6.5 Grendel cartridge may be one of the most versatile round for the intermediate ranges used in target shooting and hunting. This isn’t your .223/5.56 Nato round for your AR. If you’re looking for accuracy and knockdown power out to 600 yards with your AR, this is the cartridge to go with.
In order to use the 6.5 Grendel you need to change out the uppers of the AR.
6.5 Grendel Info
This upper is getting popular which is why factory ammunitions are making the 6.5 Grendel more available for anyone that wants to push it out to the limit.
The 6.5 Grendel caliber was created to combine the power of the 7.62 and the Ballistic Coefficient (flat trajectory) of the 5.56 NATO round. These upgraded rounds will improve the range of your AR, reduces recoil and a flat trajectory over long distances.
Whats cool about AR’s is that you don’t need to buy a new rifle to shoot the 6.5 Grendel. Just change your upper to fit the 6.5 Grendel. Switching it out is a breeze. Plus no FFL paperwork to be hassled with.
The cost and weight of the 6.5 Grendel round is cheaper/lighter than a .308 round. If you want to shoot more than go with the 6.5 Grendel.
Speaking of price, be prepare to fork out anywhere from $350 to $500 for the Grendel.
6.5 Grendel Upper Features
Here are some 6.5 Grendel upper features to consider when choosing one.
Forged – Most upper receiver from manufacturers are either forged, machined or cast. The standard is a forged upper receiver. Forged metal retains more strength than other types.
Customization Friendly – Choose an upper that you can switch out barrels and have space for your optics. Most upper comes with a barrel and a handguard. This combo can save you money.
Forward Assist
This was something that I had taken for granted while in the military. Now as a Joe citizen, having forward assist on your AR is good to have for cycling malfunctions.
For these precision shooting at 400 to 600 yards get yourself a 16″ or 20″ barrel with these uppers.
This isn’t the complete list of 6.5 Grendel uppers but a decent one to start with, have a look.
